I hear of businesses that do very well without planning. Why do we need to plan?

I would like to know which business these are. It is about reaching potential and operating efficiently. Without a plan or guide it would be difficult to know if they going well. It would be very difficult to measure progress and debate strategy without a planning process

The bigger the business the more complex the decisions are and the ramifications of such decisions are wider and larger as well. Some successful businesses may not have a formal planning process to follow but I would be confident in stating that they are very clear in what they want where they are going and how they are getting there
