I find that marketing seems to be largely guesswork. We have worked with branding and marketing agencies who all say the same thing but last year it made no impact on our sales. What do I look for in a marketing or branding company?

Like any advisory firm, a marketing or branding company can make claims about what they do without any repercussion. There are no standards and anyone can start up a marketing company if they think they know something about marketing. Ultimately increasing sales is what it is all about and marketing is simply one element to this. There is an awful amount of hype and rhetoric out there.

We suggest hat you carefully check with their past clients (not the most recent ones who have not had any sales results yet) and see how they made a difference. Did they create marketing campaigns and what results did they get? Look at the quality of the marketing collateral they created.

Ask yourself  "do they really understand me and my business and goals?". They should start off with a review of your business and issue a report with recommendations of the way forward.

The old rule applies however. The cheaper they are, the less impact they will have on your sales.
